Located on the Yaque Del Sur River, Montegrande dam was designed with the objectives of preventing flooding, promoting ecotourism and ensuring water supply in a region. In addition, the design is expected to generate electric power in the future (installed capacity of 18MW).

Intertechne carried out the Basic Optimized Design and also the Executive Design of all the structures that make up the multiple use of Montegrande, which includes a dam (2,165 m long and 55 m high), spillway, bottom discharger, house valves and emergency spillway.

The dam design was made of an asphalt core with a plinth supported by a diaphragm wall, which until then had never been carried out by Intertechne, and little done worldwide. In addition to designing an emergency spillway, like a fuse dike, which breaks if exceptional floods occur.
