In August 2026, Intertechne began its involvement in the expansion project of the Jaguara Hydropower Plant, as the engineering company contracted by WEG. The project includes the installation of two new generating units, each with a capacity of 116 MW, adding 232 MW to the plant’s installed capacity and increasing the total number of generating units from four to six.
The scope of work includes engineering services such as the preparation of ANEEL Basic Designs, the Consolidated Basic Design, Detailed Engineering Design and As-Built documentation. The contract has a total planned duration of 42 months.
From the outset, the project has presented important challenges for the team. The tight schedule for the deliverables, combined with the client’s expectations regarding the quality and technical excellence of the work, requires a high level of planning, integration and technical responsibility. In this context, the team works based on established project premises and draws on its accumulated experience in the sector to move forward with consistency and confidence.
Integration Across Disciplines
To address the project’s challenges, Intertechne has structured a team based on its matrix project management model, which is particularly suited to an undertaking characterized by multidisciplinary work and a high degree of interdependence among different engineering areas.
The project is supported by the PMO – Project Management Office – and the Management Support team, helping ensure appropriate controls, streamlined processes and close, effective communication with the client. “People’s engagement is the main factor behind the project’s success. The experience of our leaders and supervisors, combined with the support of the New Energy Business Unit’s management team, strengthens our ability to respond to technical challenges and meet the established deadlines,” says engineer Oscar Dias Negrão Neto.
Close Collaboration with the Client
Although the first deliverables are still to come, one of the most significant advances so far has been the level of integration established with the client.
The relationship began with a meeting at WEG’s headquarters and will continue with a site visit, expanding the teams’ understanding of the project’s conditions and further strengthening collaboration between them.
The Detailed Engineering Design is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2027. Following this stage, Intertechne will continue to provide technical support and integration throughout construction, which is scheduled for completion in December 2029.
Through its involvement in the Jaguara Hydropower Plant expansion, Intertechne further expands its participation in power generation projects that require technical expertise, multidisciplinary integration and the ability to turn engineering challenges into consistent solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
